In 2026, limitless power is set to overtake coal as the world’s leading source of electricity. Once an “alternative,” now the cheapest, fastest power humanity has ever built.
Solar
Not some little science project. Solar is one of the fastest-growing electricity sources on the planet. And the age-old question of “what happens when the sun goes down?” has a much better answer now: batteries, storage, transmission, and a smarter grid.
Wind
A windy day can be good for the power grid and for business. Wind already generates huge shares of electricity in states like Iowa, South Dakota, and Kansas. Plus, it creates lease income for farmers and ranchers, keeping dollars in American pockets.
Nuclear
Not sun, wind, or water, but it still belongs in the conversation about limitless energy. In 2025, nuclear supplied about 18% of U.S. utility-scale electricity, making it one of the country’s biggest sources of carbon-free power. Texas
Everything really is bigger in Texas. Limitless power included. Texas is the country’s biggest wind producer, and solar is now growing so fast that the EIA expects solar to produce more electricity than coal in 2026.

The Earth has a built-in heat source. Geothermal power taps underground energy and turns it into electricity. It’s still a smaller slice of the U.S. grid today, but in 2025, geothermal plants in 7 states produced about 16 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Enough to power 1.5 million U.S. households for a year, which is the entire nation of Nicaragua. Kind of awesome.
Cleaner
No energy source has zero impact. But wind and solar have a clear advantage: they don’t burn fuel to generate electricity, which means no smokestack emissions during operation. Pretty useful when the goal is more power with less mess.

Recyclable
Solar panels last at least 25 years. And then you can recycle them! More than 85% of panels are made from materials we already know how to recycle, like glass and aluminum. And it’ll only get better as the technology advances, too.
Magic
Even magic runs on electricity. But Disneyland is working toward 100% renewable electricity by the end of the decade through a mix of onsite and offsite sources. Turns out, clean power pairs pretty well with castles, fireworks, and churros.
Bills
Over three-quarters of Americans agree: We’re in a cost-of-living crisis. While limitless power can’t solve our problems writ large, it can alleviate some of the strain caused by rising energy bills.
Farmers
Limitless power is a new kind of crop. Wind and solar projects bring stable lease payments to rural landowners while keeping families in control of the land. In 2024 alone, wind and solar installations delivered $4 billion for rural communities. Not bad for land that was already home to the sun and wind anyway.

Clean power is powering the next generation of learners. Today, one in nine students attends a K-12 school powered by solar energy. That sunlight hitting the playground during recess is also helping power classroom lights, gym equipment, cafeteria machines, and more.
